Madison No Fear Dentistry!

Writing about my trip to the dentist today may be unconventional, but that makes it unique, right?  I fit into that category of folks who are extremely afraid of the dentist.  I would rather be eaten alive by zombies than have my mouth poked with needles and my teeth sawed down to practically nothing.

I actually get myself sick over worrying about the appointment before I even arrive.  Get me in that dental chair and I'm white-knuckled and wide-eyed.  That all changed today; however, and I want to tell the world about it.

I have had a painful, sensitive tooth and knew I needed an appointment, but was too afraid to find a new dentist here in Madison.  Last night a friend posted on her business page, Absolutely Art, that new art work was hanging up at Madison No Fear Dentistry.  What?  A dental office that displays local artists' work?  Time to investigate....

I made a call to them this morning and they were willing to get me in today.  I pulled myself together, took a deep breath at the door, and went inside chuckling to myself (let them try to take the fear out of me).

I was quickly checked in at the front desk by Kourtney, and only waited a few minutes before being taken back by Carley, one of the dental assistants.  Carley gave me a complete tour of the beautiful, modern facility.  This place is so amazing that I was silently wondering if there was a job opening.

Carley was very gentle and talkative.  She got some history and x-rays before the doctor came in.  I saw Dr. Kevin DeGroot (my new BFF) who was laid-back, kind and fully explained everything he was doing.  Dr. DeGroot fixed me right up with no "fear" whatsoever.  The two of them made me feel so relaxed that I forgot where I was, and almost asked them what we were doing tonight.

You don't even feel like a patient at this office.  The staff is so caring and treats you like a person, wanting to know about your life beyond your dental problems.   They really lived up to their name!

Now, let's get to the real perks (aside from the exceptional staff):
  • Complimentary WiFi and iPads
  • Keurig for brewing tea, coffee or hot chocolate
  • Warm or cold neck wraps
  • Eye masks
  • Tempur-Pedic chairs
  • LCD TV's
  • Apples and fresh baked cookies
  • Kids costumes
  • Hygienic warm blankets
  • Artist of the month
Yes, this is for real and I haven't even shared my favorite perk yet.  They actually make homemade bread to hand out to patients who want a loaf.  Kourtney handed me a loaf as I was checking out.  It was still warm, but I was the one melting.  Don't believe me?  The proof is in the photo.

Mmmm, so good

Now you see why I wanted to do a post about this special place?  It's still hard to believe that I look forward to my next appointment.  I never, ever thought that I would welcome going to the dentist.

I cannot recommend Madison No Fear Dentistry enough.  Check them out if you live in the area (I'm so sorry if you don't).  You will be happy you did and you're welcome.  Thanks so much Kourtney, Carley, Dr. DeGroot and Patti.  Until next time....

I can't wait to try this

  1. Great post! Thanks for sharing your experience with us! Generally people get scared from the very name of dentists but if the dentist is soft spoken, friendly, caring and professional like Dr. Ibrahim of Primary Dental Care in Garden Groves then the patients won't be scared anymore!
