I think most people are aware of sites like Couchsurfing and Airbnb for accommodations, but did you know there are also sites that allow you to share a meal with a local in their home?
I learned about one such site a couple of months ago and recently discovered a few more, so I'm sharing the love. For those who aren't ready (and never will be) to have a stranger pajama party, this may be for you.
Imagine being invited to someone's home when you are out on the road, and presented with a home-cooked meal and conversation. Sure beats sitting at a restaurant, especially if you are traveling solo.
Sounds like a dream, right? It's a reality times four, because that's how many sites I found and they all look appealing. I'm wildly excited, because I booked my first meal in Mexico City the end of May. Here is the list, beginning with the one I booked:
http://www.eatwith.com/
https://www.mealsharing.com/
https://www.cookening.com/
http://www.homehostedmeals.com/
The websites are fun to peruse; however, I highly recommend signing up and enjoying some experiences. If you want to show off your cooking skills, become a host. The possibilities are endless....
